    A

    Abutment
    A solid stone "springer" at the lowest point of an arch or vault.

    Agate
    A variegated variety of quartz showing colored bands or other markings (clouded, mosslike, etc.).

    Abrasive finish
    A flat non-reflective surface finish for marble.

    Acid
    Igneous rock with more than 66% silica.

    B

    Baluster
    A miniature pillar or column supporting a rail, used in balustrades.

    Balustrade
    An ornamental fencing consisting of a series of balusters supporting a handrail or molding.

    Basic
    Igneous rock containing silica between 45% and 52%.

    Board
    It is a fracture surface of a rock en noted that relative displacement.

    Bond stone
    Used in varying percentages to anchor or bond the stone veneer to the backing material. Bond stones are generally cut to twice the bed thickness of the material being used.

    Bracket
    Steel disc that holds and pulls the diamond wire, so it can operate in either direction.

    C

    Limestone
    Sedimentary rock consisting mainly of carbonates. The two most important are calcite and dolomite.

    Calcite
    Mineral composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3).

    Chain saw
    Cutting instrument with a device that travels on an auger, a cutting arm with about 3m long and fitted with a stream lined with diamond points.

    Coating
    Material formed by soil, sand, etc.. occurring on a deposit which is removed to open a quarry.

    D

    Defect
    Those features which affect or have the potential of affecting the structural soundness of building stone, or may affect the durability of the building stone. Sometimes used for visual features such as xenoliths or veins.

    Dolomite
    Carbonate rock with a high percentage (90 to 100%) of dolomite.

    Entasis
    Curve of the upper two thirds of a column.

    Face
    This refers to the exposed portion of stone. The word "face" can also be used when referring to the edge treatment on various cutting stock materials.

    Fail
    Fractured rock with vertical and horizontal.

    Field
    Natural accumulation of a particular type of rock from possible exploitation.

    Gap
    Sedimentary rock composed of angular fragments, meaning a minimum of material transport

    Granular
    The texture of a rock with grain size almost equal.

    Grain
    The easiest cleavage direction in a stone. "With the grain" same as "natural bed". Also, particles (crystals, sand grains, etc.) of a rock.

    Igneous
    One of the three great classes of rock (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic), solidified from molten slate, as granite and lavas.

    M

    Mafic
    Term referring to the ferromagnesian minerals and rocks of these minerals.

    Marble
    Metaformizado limestone, formed by recrystallization of carbonate rock. Commercially the group of marble stones include those capable of winning polish such as limestone, travertine and serpentinites.

    Mineral
    Homogeneous solid structure with a definite chemical composition, formed by inorganic processes of nature.

    Neutral
    Igneous rock containing more than 52% and less silica.

    Pulley blocks
    Cutting machine, comprising a horizontal diamond disk and a vertical series of diamond disks.

    Schistose
    Rock that has minerals under an arrangement in parallel layers.

    Sedimentary rock
    Rocks formed by the accumulation of sediment in the water or air.

    Sedimentation
    Deposition of material with organic or inorganic.

    Sepentinito
    Metamorphic rock composed almost entirely of serpentine and relics of primary minerals.

    Slit
    Defect or crack in rock.

    Squaring blocks
    Operation by which the stone blocks are disassembled taken to acquire a regular and standard dimensions.

    Stratification
    Provision of a rock in general sedimentary layers or strata thickness and varied characteristics.

    Texture
    Arrangement, distribution and mutual relations between the components of a rock, for example grain size, rounding of clasts, the texture of igneous rocks.

    Vein
    Orebody, strict in relation to other dimensions, which cuts oldest rocks occur in the region.

    Volcanic Rock
    Class of igneous rocks that were ejected or extravasated superfiície the land or close to it.
